Malmesbury Morris

A picture for Malmesbury-Morris-Dancers

Malmesbury Morris are your friendly local Morris dancing side. We are a mixed, mainly female, Morris side drawing our membership from a large area around Malmesbury. We dance a mixture of traditional Cotswold and Border style dances and our aim is to bring traditional dances and music to the Malmesbury area whilst having fun and keeping fit. Details of our next performances can be found in the "What's On" section, or through our website (see link at bottom of this page). To keep up to date with the latest news from Malmesbury Morris, please join our mailing list by clicking on the link on this page.

Morris Dancing is a form of traditional English & Welsh folk dance, believed to trace it's roots to European courtly dances of the 14th Century. It seems that similar forms of folk dance spread widely across Europe, and indeed folk dances similar to Morris Dancing can still be found in countries like France, Spain, and Romania. Today Morris Dancing in its various forms is alive and well with over eight-hundred sides in England and Wales, and over one-hundred more abroad as far afield as the USA, Australia, Finland and China.

New members are always welcome, either as dancers or as musicians. We meet for practice sessions every Thursday evening at the Reading Room in Corston, just South of Malmesbury. If you would like to know more, please see our website; or alternatively why not come and chat to us when we're out and about performing - see the "What's On" section for date, time and place information.
