The Corsham Area

Apart from Lacock, which straddles the valley of the Bristol Avon, the Corsham community area lies entirely on the Oolitic and Inferior limestones of the southern Cotswolds. Indeed the freestones mined and quarried at Box and Corsham have been the mainstay of its economy and its principal claim to fame. Despite its insignificant appearance, the By Brook has carved a deep and picturesque valley between Box and Colerne, isolating Colerne and Slaughterford from the rest of the area. Corsham and Box are linked with Chippenham to the east and Bath to the west by the main A4 Bath Road, giving the area easy access and a close affiliation to Bath.
