The Cricklade Museum was established by the Cricklade Historical Society who are responsible for its maintenance. The Museum is one of 18 supported by Wiltshire County Council's Museum Service and is a key tourist attraction for Cricklade. The Museum, despite its small size, houses more than 8,000 items in its collection and, on 23rd March 2006, was awarded full accreditation by the Museums, Libraries & Archives Council (the MLA).

The MLA's Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for UK museums. To meet the requirements of the scheme, museums must demonstrate that they achieve clearly defined standards relating to governance and management, user services, visitor facilities and collections management. Accreditation was previously known as Registration. Cricklade Museum was the first non– designated museum in Wiltshire to be granted full accreditation. The designated collections in Wiltshire, i.e. those of national significance, are the Wiltshire Heritage Museum and Salisbury Museum. We are justifiably proud of this achievement.

The aim of Cricklade Museum is to collect, conserve, research, interpret and provide public access to objects associated with the Cricklade district thereby encouraging people to acquire knowledge of local history. The main strength of the collection lies in objects from the 19th and 20th centuries. There are research resources for family and local history, family trees, maps, and a properties index together with a veritable mine of information held on the Museum's databases.
