North Aisle Community Area

In 2003 an area in the north aisle of the church was established for the use of the community of Hankerton. Pews were removed, carpet laid, tables and chairs purchased and a sink unit fitted in the vestry. Currently it is popular with various groups for meetings and social events and there is a hope that more residents will think of other ways of utilising this space to greater effect; it is the only community area within the parish boundary. There are plans to develop the area further by removing more pews and to build a small extension to the boiler room, thus providing a disabled-friendly toilet facility. Fundraising activities are regularly held and a "porch shop" operates between May and October when residents leave surplus fruit and vegetables from their gardens for the rest of us to buy. There are also plenty of good quality second-hand books, videos and cds to buy and everyone is very welcome to pop along for a coffee and a chat on a Saturday morning between 10am and 12 noon, throughout the year.
