Hankerton History Group

The Hankerton History Group, meets on a bi-monthly basis to explore and investigate the history of the village through the stories and investigations of present and past residents of the village. The group travels to the local records office to trace families and businesses from the past to discover the development of village to what we see it today

The group is always on the outlook for past residents of the village to expand their knowledge of Hankerton and you can make contact with them via the email address
hankertonhistorygroup@yahoo.co.uk

It is amazing what you can learn when you start to dig and explore the history of your village. So far we have uncovered thet fact that there has been a religious settlement on the site long before the church was built back in the 14th century. We have discovered the site of an old windmill within the bounds of the village - hence the original names for one of the roads, Windmill Hill Road, which does not exist today.

Upcoming meetings:
Thursday 13th March - Meeting re the history of the floods - an opportunity to bring along photographs of the recent and earlier floods. We hope that we can receive photographs which might form an archive and be used in future exhibitions. To be held in the Church North aisle at 7.30pm.

Friday 18th April - Bob Bewley from English Heritage will give a talk on his life with the organisation. To be held at Charlton Village hall at 7.30pm.

Wednesday 21st May - AGM to be held in the Church North aisle at 7.30pm
