Welcome to the Hankerton Village Website.
Hankerton or as it was called in ancient times Hanekington, once belonged to the Abbey of Malmesbury. It is about 3 miles east of Malmesbury, 10 miles west of Swindon. The village has about 100 homes and a population of approximately 250 people, a dairy farm, an Aberdeen Angus beef farm and an arable farm. We have a local car repair business, a Lifestye beauty business and a fabric and soft furnishing business.
News: We are entering our village into the 'Best Kept Village' competition again this year, in the small village category. We have carried out a litter pick - 12 backs of rubbish!! Now a request to all villagers, please keep your verges neat and tidy with a plash of colour where possible...thanks
The 12th century Holy Cross church is the centre piece of the village and is in a lovely open setting surrounded by fields and a few homes. The village green is situated between the Old School House and the Old Vicarage all forming the centre of the original village. The village also has Cloatley Manor and Cloatley Meadows to the East. The Meadows form part of 100 or so acres of the Wiltshire Wildlife trust and has many rare plants for all to enjoy. There is much history within the village and a History Group takes an active interest in exploring, uncovering and generally bring to life the tales and 'goings on' of past.
