THE PARISH STEWARD with his vehicle.

These yellow Land Rovers, especially built as a specialized vehicle, carrying mostly hand tools enable the Parish Steward to carry out many veried small tasks, keeping grips and gullies clear and free flowing, keep most road and street furniture clean, keep visibility splays at road junction clear to assist joining vehicles with a better field of vision. The Stewards also report other highway defects which they find and are not equipt to deal with to their Area Office. Each of the Steward has a number of parishes which they visit on a regular monthly rotational basis,spending anything from 1 to 3 days in any oneparish dealing with the jobs which the Parish has requested.

These machines are very versatile, have a selection of operating heads mounted on the boom, these include the grass cutter shown. There are several of them located thoughout the County performing very useful work improving safety, visibility and many other aspects of highway maintenance.
