PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS The dates of all 2008 Parish Council Meetings are to be found on "Parish Information 1". The next meetings are schedule for May 20th in Lea Village Hall at 7:30 p.m.

The first meeting on May 20th will be the Annual Parish Meeting which will be immediately followed by the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council. All parishioners are welcome to attend both meetings.

REPAIRS TO COWBRIDGE BRIDGE - B4042 ARE NOW COMPLETE WITH THE BRIDGE NOW OPEN TO TWO WAY TRAFFIC and is pictured above.

The verge repairs and partial reinstatement of the C81 from the Primary School up towards Garsdon Cross has been completed. Further necessary patching will be carried out in due course.

During PC Hucklebridge's maternity leave, starting at towards the end of October 2007, PC Steve Humphries will assume the duties of Beat Manager.

WARNING - THEFT OF FUEL OIL FROM STORAGE TANKS - The local police have issued a warning regarding thefts of oil from storage tanks. Lock your tanks if you can and report any unusual activities to the Police on the local number 0845 408 7000 Extension 734817. Only use "999" if it is an emergency situation. Please tell your neighbours if they don't have access to this web site.

BEST KEPT VILLAGE COMPETITION - 2008.

This year we are only able to enter the Laurence Kitching Award as a result of winning the General Competion in 2006. All parishioners will be aware that we won the "Winner of Winners" competition last year. The plague commemorating this achievement will be found on the front on the Village Hall.

2008 is the 50th anniversary of the Best Kept Village competition in Wiltshire and to celebrate this anniversary there will be an additional round to determine the "Village of the County".

Lea also won the CPRE Wiltshire County Round for Medium size villages in 1986, 2002 and 2006. We were also placed second in the Winner of Winners Competition in 2003.

In 2007 the Parish Council was only able enter the Village in the "Winner of Winners" Competition for the Laurence Kitching Award. This award we won against stiff opposition. Perhaps we can repeat the winning of the "Winner of Winners" competition again this year and in addition the "Village of the County" as well.

It will be 2009 before we are able to enter the general competition.

A decision was made by the Parish Council to spend some of the prize money of £150:00 on the purchase and planting of a substantial quantity of daffodil bulbs in various areas throughout the village. These are now starting to show and will add to the attractiveness of the village. A picture of the daffodils on Pembroke Green appears above.
