Dog Walkers are reminded of the need to clear up after their pets. There has been a considerable increase in the fouling of pavements and other areas, particularly some grass verges where is grass is rather longer which hides doggy droppings. This is a fineable offence. Please be considerate to others and don't let your pets leave their calling cards behind. CLEAN UP BEHIND THEM. Thank you.

RED K6 PUBLIC TELEPHONE BOXES IN THE PARISH.

BT have removed the telephone service from the Telephone Boxes in both Lea and Garsdon. The power supply, due to the annual charge which was considered by the Parish Council to be an unnecessary expense, was removed prior to the transfer of ownership to the Parish Council. The GARSDON box is set up as an information centre with a notice board, given some TLC and repainted in the traditional red colour with crowns the top of each side picked out in gold. The LEA box has been converted into a book exchange which we hope all will make use of. The smart finish of both boxes is a credit to the Parish. The LEA box was much admired by the CPRE in the recent judging for the Best Kept Village Competition the result of which maybe found elsewhere on this page. The boxes as a result of the repainting has been much admired by all and particularly by one local Parish Council. The additional painting of the crowns has made the effect all the more impressive.

WILTSHIRE COUNCIL DRAFT PARKING STRATEGY

PEMBROKE GREEN LEA IN THE SPRING.

BEST KEPT VILLAGE COMPETITION - 2010.

The CPRE have advised the Parish Council of the outcome of the entry in the 2010 Best Kept Village Competition. LEA has been been placed 2nd against Yatton Keynell 1st.with Christian Malford 3rd, Sutton Benger 4th,Dauntsey 5th,Great Somerford 6th and Oaksey 7th.

The Parish Council much appreciates the effort of those residents of the village who took the time and trouble to keep their frontages, including hedges and grass verges well trimmed and free from litter. The comments made by the CPRE Judges are as follows: 1.A village whose centre is designated within a conservation area - situated and set in the magnificent setting of north west Wiltshire. 2. The Jubilee Playing Fields were in very good order. Children's play area well maintained, safe and free from litter. 3. St Giles Churchyard was tidy and grass reasonably well mown. 4. The Rose & Crown Public House was under renovation, it has recently changed ownership. The outside was attractive and the car park free of litter. 5. The Chapel and Graveyard were tidy but the grass a little long. The notice board was a little faded. 6. The Laurels consevation area looked rather overgrown. 7. Lea & Garsdon CE Primary School & Lea Pre-School are situated on the edge of the village. The school looked well kept with no rubbish in the playground. The notice board was up to date and tidy. The Pre-School is a portacabin adjacent to the school with a children's play area outside. This too was well maintained. 8. Lea allotments are an additional facility to the village which is well used. The Plots varied - some very productive and others overgrown. Paths were well mown but the sides of the site were weedy. 9. The Village Hall was well kept and used. It was tidy in the front and notices up to date. 10. The Telephone Box is owned by the Parish Council and was very clean and tidy. 11. Pembroke Green although highlighted as a problem area was clear of rubbish. The centre green was a little overgrown and the roadside gutters a little weedy. 12. A lovely Wiltshire village.

MALMESBURY AREA 'FIRE STOP' PROJECT.

This is a multi-agency approach to reduce accidental dwelling fires and associated death and injury by identifying 'vulnerable' members of the community who are more at risk of fire and to refer them to the Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service.

The Target Group consists of Lone Pensioners; Single Parent families; Homes where an occupant has a long term limiting ilness or a physical/mental impairment, (including alcohol and substance dependency); Homes with Low Income and Homes where adults have never worked.

If you fall within the Target Group and wish to take advantage of a free survey please initially contact the Parish Clerk on 01666 823730 or send an e-mail to him on lea_clevertonpc@btinternet.com when you will be given a request card to submit asking for the free survey. The Wilts Fire and Rescue Service will then make contact with you to arrange an appointment to visit you and carry out the survey.
