Parish Council Minutes May 2008

Biddestone and Slaughterford Parish Council
Notes from the meeting of 27th May 2008
Apologies were received from Cllrs. de Fossard Scott (NWDC).

The meeting was preceded by the six- monthly Open Meeting, at which Council activities were summarised. Fourteen members of the public attended.

Funds are being sought to enable planting around the pond in the autumn. The scheme will include sealing the leak from around the spillway. It is hoped the public toilets will be reopened shortly.

Planning applications approved include relocation of the riding school from Mountjoy Farm to Weavern Lane (just beyond the Churchyard extension) and change of use of land at the Parish Hall, from agricultural to recreation, together with resiting of the new cricket nets. Tree surgery was also approved at 1 High Bank Slaughterford.

There were no objections to development of a building for Biddestone Stud and felling of a yew tree at The Close.

The proposals prepared by Highways and Wiltshire County Council to deter speeding through the village, by the use of appropriate road markings, were discussed (also at an open meeting) and the suggestions made are being incorporated into a revised plan.

Conservation Officers of NWDC are working with the council in getting listed building consent for restoring the War memorial. It is hoped the work will be completed before this year’s Remembrance Day.

The police enquiry offices at Chippenham and Trowbridge have reopened. The village needs somebody to coordinate neighbourhood watch activities within the village.

The Council will meet again on 24th June.
